Cross Country Practice Plan

(With COVID-19 Safety Measures)

1.   Number one goal is for runners to remain healthy and to work towards becoming productive student athletes

2.   Considerations for parents

a.   Please make sure your child and immediate household members are free from illness before participating in practice and competition (if there is doubt please stay home and message Coach Summeralls)

4.   Check in:

a.   Please wait for Coach Summeralls at the track.  You are to space out with at least 10 feet apart until the Pre-Screening check is completed. 

b.   All student athletes must adhere to Polk County School Board Pre-Screening policies.

c.   A record of athletes who attend each practice will be kept in case contact tracing is needed.

d.   Do not start warming up until Coach Summeralls completes COVID screening.  Do not group together before, during or after workout.

5.   Requirements for all Workouts

a.   Please use social distancing before, during, and after practice

b.   Mask are not required for practice but encouraged before and after workouts. 

c.   Time – No more than two consecutive hours per day

d.   All students shall bring their own water bottle. Water bottles must not be shared.

e.   No hugging, shaking hands, or fist bumps for support/encouragement.

f.     We will clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and exercise equipment.

g.   Students should wear their own appropriate workout clothing (do not share clothing), and individual clothing/towels should be washed and cleaned after every workout immediately upon returning home.

h.   Hand sanitizer should be plentiful at all contests and practices.

i.     Athletes should tell coaches immediately when they are not feeling well.

7.   Considerations for parents

a.   Please make sure your child and immediate household members are free from illness before participating in practice and competition (if there is doubt please stay home and message Coach Summeralls)

8.   Meet schedule is attached at the end of manual.

9.   Check in:

a.   We will check in with Coach Summeralls in front of the main office.  You will have your uniforms prior to the meet and are expected to be dressed out when you arrive.

b.   You are to space out with at least 10 feet apart until the Pre-Screening check is completed. 

c.   All student athletes must adhere to Polk County School Board Pre-Screening policies.

d.   A record of athletes who attend each meet will be kept in case contact tracing is needed.

10.        Requirements for all Meets:

a.   Please use social distancing before, during, and after meet.

b.   Mask will be worn upon arrival to school, on the school bus and until we start warming up.  During warm up, after warming up, on the starting line, and during competition you can wear a mask but are not required. 

c.   We will be setting up our tent at least 10 feet from other team tents.

d.   There will also be space on tarp (or tarps if necessary) to social distance.

e.   All students shall bring their own water bottle. Water bottles must not be shared.  There will not be water provided at the end of the race.

f.     No hugging, shaking hands, or fist bumps for support/encouragement.

g.   When you complete your race, you are to leave the finish corral as quickly as possible.

h.   We will clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and exercise equipment.
